Nile Crocodile

The Nile Crocodile is Africa’s largest crocodilian and one of the continent’s most formidable apex predators, found in rivers, lakes, swamps, and estuaries across much of sub-Saharan Africa. An ambush hunter, it lies motionless at the water’s edge for hours before exploding into a powerful lunge, capable of taking prey many times its own size.

Its heavily armoured hide, powerful tail, and immense bite force have made it a feared and revered animal throughout African history and folklore. Long-lived and slow-growing, mature bulls can live well beyond 50 years, and the species plays a vital role in the health of the freshwater ecosystems it inhabits.
