Burchell’s Zebra
(Equus quagga burchellii – Gray, 1824)
The most widespread and common zebra of the African plains, Burchell’s Zebra is recognised by its bold black-and-white stripes and softer shadow-stripes on the hindquarters.
Highly social, they gather in large herds and often mingle with wildebeest and other plains game on their seasonal movements.
Average shoulder height is 130 cm (51") and average weight is 300–350 kg (660–770 lbs).
